Preface: Don’t panic if there is a problem with your VPN, 90% of the problems can be solved by yourself
After using AoxVPN for two years, I have encountered countless pitfalls. I can’t connect, my internet speed suddenly slows down, my streaming media suddenly becomes unavailable – I’ve encountered all of these problems. But to be honest, there are very few "difficult problems" that really require contacting customer service. Most problems can be solved with just a few simple steps. Today I have sorted out the troubleshooting experience I have accumulated over the years, covering the three major high-frequency problems of connection failure, speed optimization, and streaming media unlocking. I hope it can help you who also use AoxVPN.
1. Connection issues: Why can’t I connect?
1.1 The client cannot connect to the server
This is the most common problem and the easiest to solve. Check them one by one in the following order:

In my personal testing, switching protocols is the most effective. For example, in my company's WiFi environment, WireGuard is often restricted, but when I switch to IKEv2, I can connect in seconds. - If WireGuard fails, try OpenVPN TCP mode (it resembles HTTPS traffic and is less likely to be blocked)
- As a final option, switch to obfuscation mode or the Shadowsocks protocol, which makes the traffic look more like ordinary web browsing
Let me tell you a real case: Last time I stayed at the All Seasons Hotel on a business trip, the WiFi blocked most VPN protocols by default. I switched to OpenVPN TCP port 443 (shared with HTTPS) and got it straight away. I watched Netflix in 1080p without interruption during the entire process.
1.3 The 4G/5G mobile phone can be used but the WiFi cannot be connected
This situation is 100% not a problem with AoxVPN, but a limitation of the router or operator. Troubleshooting path:
Whether VPN Passthrough is turned on on the router (most routers turn it on by default, TP-Link/Xiaomi routers are in the security settings)

2. Speed issues: Why does the Internet speed suddenly slow down?
2.1 Troubleshooting process for sudden speed drop
It is normal for the network speed to slow down after a VPN connection (encryption and decryption itself has overhead), but if the speed drops by more than 50%, it is most likely due to the following reasons:

Improper MTU setting The web page cannot be opened but the download is normal. The MTU is adjusted to 1400-1450.
Actual measurement data: I used the Japanese node of AoxVPN to run Speedtest. Under the WireGuard protocol, it can reach 220Mbps (my home broadband is 300M), IKEv2 is about 180Mbps, and OpenVPN is only about 90Mbps. So if you are pursuing speed, WireGuard is the right choice without any thought.
2.2 Intelligent diversion is not configured properly, causing domestic websites to slow down
This is a pitfall I encountered when I first started using Aox - global mode caused all traffic to go through the VPN. I turned on the global mode to access site B, but it was stuck terribly. I turned off the VPN and couldn’t watch YouTube. Later I discovered that the smart offloading mode is the correct usage:

3. Streaming media unlocking problem: Netflix/Disney+ suddenly becomes unavailable
3.1 Reasons why streaming media suddenly fails
This is the most troublesome problem - I could see it yesterday, but suddenly I can't see it today. Reasons usually include:
Streaming media platforms have blocked a number of VPN IPs (Netflix is the most diligent and blocks them every week)
The node you are connected to is marked as a proxy IP
Browser cookies/cache expose true location
DNS leak exposes real IP

- ping / traceroute: test latency and the network route

4.2 Log analysis method

TLS handshake failed -> the protocol is probably blocked; switch protocols
DNS resolution failed -> a DNS problem; change the DNS server
Authentication failed -> the account or subscription has expired

4.3 The ultimate solution: Reset the network stack

Windows: Administrator CMD executes:

Mobile phone: switch airplane mode on or off, or reset network settings (note: all saved WiFi passwords will be cleared)
