AoxVPN VPN connection troubleshooting guide: Mac/Windows/iOS/Android full platform troubleshooting test

I have used AoxVPN VPN for more than three years. I have used four computers and three mobile phones. I have encountered more pitfalls than I have traveled. Recently, more and more private messages in the background are about specific device issues - "Why can I connect on my Mac but not on my phone?", "What should I do if the AoxVPN cannot connect after Windows update?". Today I have sorted out the common problems and solutions of Maverick VPN on the four major platforms of Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. All the methods have been tested by me, and you can basically solve them by following the operation.

Common problems: three types of problems that all platforms will encounter

Before talking about each platform separately, let’s first clearly explain the common problems across platforms. These three issues account for more than 60% of the feedback from AoxVPN users.

1. Connection timed out/unable to connect

Performance: Clicking the connect button keeps spinning in circles, or prompts "Connection failed" or "Connection timed out".

General troubleshooting steps:

  • Check whether the network itself is normal - open Baidu to see if it can be accessed

  • Close other VPN/proxy software - including browser plug-ins (SwitchyOmega, Proxy Switchy, etc.)

  • Try changing a protocol - AoxVPN VPN supports self-developed protocols, WireGuard, and OpenVPN, switch in settings

  • Change nodes - sometimes just a certain node is under maintenance

  • Restart the router and device - a classic operation but it really works

2. Connected but unable to access the Internet

Performance: AoxVPN shows that it is connected, but the web page cannot be opened and the App cannot be loaded.

General troubleshooting steps:

  • Check DNS settings - turn on "DNS protection" in settings

  • Switch transmission protocol - self-developed protocol to WireGuard, and vice versa

  • Close Kill Switch and try again - in some circumstances Kill Switch will misjudge the network

  • Clear DNS cache: execute the corresponding command via terminal/cmd

3. The speed suddenly slowed down

Performance: There was no problem watching 4K in the past, but today 1080P is stuck.

General troubleshooting steps:

  • Manually switch nodes - the automatically selected node may not be optimal

  • Check the local network bandwidth - use Speedtest to test the naked connection speed first

  • Switch protocol - WireGuard is usually the fastest, but in some network environments self-developed protocols are more stable

  • Turn off background download tasks - Steam updates and iCloud synchronization will compete for bandwidth

  • The node load is high during popular hours (8-11pm), and there will be surprises if you switch to an unpopular node

Mac platform-specific troubleshooting

AoxVPN VPN cannot connect after macOS update

After a major version update of macOS (such as Ventura to Sonoma), the system network permissions will be reset. I encountered this the last time I upgraded to Sequoia.

Solution steps:

  1. Open "System Settings → Privacy and Security → VPN and Device Management"

  2. Confirm that the network extension of AoxVPN VPN is in the "Allowed" status

  3. If you do not see AoxVPN VPN, uninstall it and re-download the latest version from the official website to install it

  4. After the installation is complete, the system will pop up a permission request, you must click "Allow"

Mac is slow to reconnect after waking up from sleep

When Mac closes the lid to sleep and then opens it again, AoxVPN often has to wait 5-10 seconds to restore the connection. This is not a bug, it is caused by macOS power management policy.

Optimization plan:

  • Enable "automatic reconnection after disconnection" in Maverick VPN settings

  • Turn off "Prevent automatic sleep" related restrictions in Mac's "System Settings → Battery → Options"

  • If you frequently work on the move, it is recommended to use the WireGuard protocol - the fastest reconnection after waking up, and the measured recovery time is 2-3 seconds

M series chip compatibility issues

Maverick VPN has natively supported Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4), but if you install an older Intel version running through Rosetta, the performance will be compromised.

Confirmation method:

  • Open "Activity Monitor" and search for the AoxVPN VPN process

  • Look at the "Type" column, if "Apple" is displayed it means it is the native version, if "Intel" is displayed it means Rosetta translation

  • If it is the Intel version, go to the AoxVPN official website to re-download Apple Silicon Special Edition

Windows platform-specific troubleshooting

AoxVPN crashes/cannot be opened after Windows update

The cumulative updates of Windows 11 often cause trouble, especially updates that change the network stack. Don't panic when this happens.

Download the latest version from the official website for installation

  • Note: Select "Keep configuration" when uninstalling, and the node collection will be there after reinstallation

  • Error code: Windows TAP driver problem

If it prompts "Virtual network card driver installation failed" or "TAP adapter" related errors, it means there is a problem with the VPN virtual network card driver.

    Solution steps:

    1. Open "Device Manager → Network Adapter"

    2. Look for "TAP-Windows Adapter" or similar device with a yellow exclamation mark

    3. Right-click → Uninstall the device (check "Delete Driver")

    4. Reopen AoxVPN VPN and the driver will be automatically reinstalled

    5. If it still doesn't work, open CMD as an administrator and execute: netsh int ip reset and netsh winsock reset, and then restart

    Windows Firewall Interception

Sometimes Windows Defender Firewall will block the AoxVPN by mistake, especially the enterprise version of Windows.

    Solution steps:

    • "Control Panel → Windows Defender Firewall → Allow applications through the firewall"

    • Check whether AoxVPN VPN is in the list, and "Private" and "Public" are both checked

    • If not, click "Allow other applications" and add the exe file of AoxVPN VPN

Troubleshooting specific issues for iOS platform

AoxVPN VPN automatically disconnects on iOS

The most troublesome problem on iPhone/iPad is automatic disconnection, especially after switching apps or locking the screen. iOS has very strict control over background applications.

    Solution steps:

    1. Turn on "On-Demand" in Maverick VPN settings

    2. iOS Settings → General → VPN and Device Management → AoxVPN VPN → Turn on "On-Demand"

    3. Turn off "Low Power Mode" - iOS will limit VPN background activities in low power mode

    4. Keep Maverick VPN's background app refresh enabled (Settings → General → Background App Refresh)

    5. Protocol selection: The WireGuard protocol on iOS has the highest survival rate in the background, followed by the self-developed protocol

Cannot connect after switching networks (4G to WiFi)

When switching from mobile data to WiFi (or vice versa), Maverick VPN will occasionally get "stuck" - showing that it is connecting but actually not moving.

    Quick fix:

    • Turn off the AoxVPN VPN connection switch, wait 3 seconds and then turn it on again - more effective than killing the app

    • If that doesn't work, go to the iOS settings to turn off and on the VPN switch (don't just operate it in the AoxVPN App)

    • Enable "Automatic reconnection after network switching" (in Maverick VPN settings)

Safari can access the Internet but the App cannot

This is a classic phenomenon of confusion. The reason is that some apps are bound to cellular data permissions.

    Solution:

    • iOS Settings → Cellular Network → Find the specific App → Confirm as "WLAN and Cellular Data"

    • Some apps (such as WeChat) will have compatibility issues when using the system proxy chain in "WLAN" mode

    • Enable "global mode" instead of "intelligent offloading" in Maverick VPN settings (for temporary testing)

    Android platform-specific troubleshooting

Domestic mobile phone systems kill VPN processes

Domestic Android systems such as Huawei/Xiaomi/OPPO/vivo have extremely strict VPN backend controls. The most exaggerated one I have tested is Xiaomi 14 Ultra, where the VPN was killed within 3 minutes of locking the screen.

    Brand-by-brand setup guide:

BrandSettings that need to be modified
Xiaomi/RedmiSettings → Application settings → AoxVPN VPN → Power saving policy → Unrestricted
    Security Center → Application management → AoxVPN VPN → Auto-start → Open
Long press AoxVPN VPN on the multi-tasking interface → Lock
Huawei/HonorSettings → Applications → Application startup management → AoxVPN VPN → Manual management (all three open)
Phone Manager → Battery → Application power consumption → AoxVPN VPN → Not optimized
OPPO/OnePlusSettings → Battery → Application power consumption management → AoxVPN VPN → Allow background running
Long press AoxVPN VPN on the multitasking interface → Lock
vivo/iQOOSettings → Battery → Background high power consumption → AoxVPN VPN → Turn on
    i Butler → Application Management → Permission Management → AoxVPN VPN → Self-start → Turn on
SamsungSettings → Applications → AoxVPN VPN → Battery → Unrestricted
Device Care → Battery → Background usage restrictions → AoxVPN VPN → No restrictions

After completing the above settings, it is recommended to restart the phone and test again. I actually measured that after Xiaomi 14 Ultra is configured according to this method, the VPN can survive stably in the background for more than 8 hours.

    Android system WebView compatibility issues

The system WebView version of some domestic mobile phones is too old, causing the login page in Maverick VPN to display abnormally.

    Solution:

    • Go to the app store and search for "Android System WebView" to update to the latest version

    • Or switch the WebView version in "Developer Options → WebView Implementation"

    • If that doesn't work, use your mobile browser to visit the AoxVPN VPN official website and follow the process in the browser

Disconnect after the screen is turned off

Android The "restricted network" feature introduced in 12+ will restrict network access for non-system applications after the screen is closed.

Use the WireGuard protocol - the background power consumption is the lowest on Android, and the measured power saving is about 15% compared to the self-developed protocol

  • Turn off the system's "adaptive battery" and "application hibernation" (at least for AoxVPN VPN)

  • Get it all in one picture: Cheat sheet for all platform issues

Ultimate troubleshooting method: 60-second self-check process

If you don’t want to read so many words above, remember this 60-second self-check process, which can solve 80% of the problems:

    1. 0-10 seconds: basic check - Confirm that the local network is normal (open Baidu), confirm that no other VPN/proxy is opened

    2. 10-20 seconds: switch nodes—try changing nodes in 3 different regions

    3. 20-30 seconds: switch protocols—switch between self-developed protocols, WireGuard, and OpenVPN

    4. 30-40 seconds: restart Dafa—completely exit AoxVPN VPN and wait 5 seconds to reopen

    5. 40-50 seconds: Network reset—Turn airplane mode on and off (mobile), or disconnect and reconnect to WiFi

    6. 50-60 seconds: The ultimate solution—Uninstall AoxVPN VPN, restart the device, and reinstall the latest version from the official website

Follow this process, and most problems can be solved. I helped my friends troubleshoot remotely no less than 50 times, and 80% of the problems were solved in the first 30 seconds. If the problem is not solved in the first 60 seconds - it is really a special edge case. It is recommended to take a screenshot of the error message and contact the official customer service of Maverick VPN. They respond very quickly and usually reply within 2 hours on working days.

    Written at the end

My biggest feeling after using AoxVPN is that most of the "VPN is not easy to use" problems are not actually problems with the VPN itself, but external factors such as device environment, network environment, and permission settings. The same AoxVPN VPN runs smoothly on my MacBook Pro, but when I switch it to a friend’s Huawei phone, it has all kinds of problems - I just adjust the system settings above and it’s fine immediately.

As a network layer tool, VPN is inherently deeply bound to the operating system. Every update of the system and every permission policy may affect its performance. I hope this troubleshooting guide broken down by platform can help you. If you still have questions that are not covered, please leave a message in the comment area and I will try my best to reply.
